How to create a Player

Build custom HTML5 players and embed in your website or blog.

Updated over a week ago

Use the Videolinq Player Wizard to create custom players with unlimited embed codes. The Videolinq Player can point to both a live stream or recorded files. The Player can stream video hosted by Videolinq, or by other streaming service providers or content delivery networks (CDN) that support the HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) protocol. Watch a 2-minute tutorial video below or follow the steps listed below in this article.

Create a Player for a Live Stream

Step 1:

Configure a live channel and start your video source. To send video only to the player, create a destination but ignore it and don't start it. Confirm you see video in the channel preview player. Push "Go Live" to activate the channel.

Step 2:

Expand the control tabs under the preview player, and find the Player tab. Click on the Player tab under the channel preview player. Click on the Player Video Source Code widget. You can create also players by opening the Player section on the left navigation bar.

There are 2 options:

  • Click on the widget link and launch the Player Wizard. Create the player and generate an embed code.

  • Copy the HLS path we provide, and put it in another HTML5 player such as JW Player, Flowplayer, THEOPlayer, or Video.js, that can stream HLS video.

Step 3:

When using the Videolinq Player as shown in Step 2, give the player a name you will remember, adjust player controls and colors, or use our advertising plugin that integrates with 3rd party advertising platform supporting the VAST or IMA protocols. Use the Advertising tool to monetize live or recorded videos.

Look at the red arrow pointing to the green tab: click on this link and a popup window will show up with HTML code to copy and paste to your website or blog. Few things to remember:

  • You can make changes to the player configuration without updating the embed code on your website or blog.

  • You don't need to create a new player every time you start streaming. The player remembers the live channel stream key and will show video every time the channel is "live".

  • Remember that for the video to show in the player you must activate the channel by pushing the "Go Live" green button.

You can also use the "Pop-up link" option to generate a pop-up player link. This link can be used on a website, in email marketing, in documents, or in online meetings like Zoom to pop up an external player with your live or recorded video. This feature is very useful because it allows playback of HD video in an environment with limited bandwidth (for example Zoom presentations).

Tips & Tricks: The Videolinq player has no restrictions and can point to ANY 3rd party streaming service provider or content delivery network (CDN) that supports HLS as video playback. All you need to do is send the video to these other services first by adding them as a channel destination, sending them your live video, getting the HLS path, and creating the player!

Create a Player for Video-on-Demand (VOD)

Step 1:

Click on the Player icon on the left navigation bar.

Step 2:

Create a new player and customize its features:

  1. Give the player a name you will remember.

  2. Select "Live" to hide the video seek bar, or "Video-on-demand" to display the seek bar. Add in this box the path to the media. See examples below.

  3. Select from 4 preset skin designs and change the player colors to match your website look & feel.

  4. Add/remove optional player controls.

  5. Preview the player design, and if all works fine, click to generate an iFrame code. Copy & paste the code to your website or blog.

Tips & Tricks: Some web browsers restrict the autoplay of videos to improve the user experience. In some cases, this may result in the video features of the Videolinq Player not functioning. To prevent this, check the "Mute audio" option in the player Controls tab. The player will load and the video will start playing in all browsers, but the User must click the audio volume icon to enable audio. Read more about how Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge handle "autoplay" or "autostart".

IMPORTANT: When you point to the player code video source HLS path to Videolinq you will be using Videolinq as your content delivery network (CDN). Additional data transfer cost per GB will apply.
