How to save automated captions

Read this article and learn how to save automated captions created during a live broadcast.

Updated over a week ago

Introduction

Videolinq's automated captioning service creates closed captioning when a channel is used to stream a live broadcast. These captions are saved and available for download after the broadcast in a captions or transcript format.

Broadcast Ends

Start the automated captioning service as explained here.

When the live stream ends, review the automated captions created and make changes to the text. When ready, select the export file format from the top right corner of the editor and save the file to your computer.

Captions Archive

Start the automated captioning service as explained here.

Come back within 30 days from the live broadcast to the media dashboard. Click on "Sources" in the left navigation bar.

Expand the "Content Management" bar.

(1) Select "Recorded Captions". (2) Check the box of the file matching the date of your live broadcast. Optional: click the pencil icon to rename the file. (3) Click on the "Editor" icon.

Use the editor to review the captions stored and correct mistakes you find. Select the export file format from the top right corner and save the file to your computer.

Tips & Tricks

  • This workflow only applies to automated captioning services. Human-curated captioning service does not store the captions inserted into live streams.

  • When a live stream ends and the channel is stopped, captions are moved to the captions archive.

  • Automated captions receive a time-stamp that aligns them with audio. The video clip used to match with the downloaded captions file must have the same length as the caption saved. Triming the video will break the time-stamp logic of the caption file.
