Learn how to add a poster image to the Videolinq HTML5 player.

Updated over a week ago

Create custom players for live streams or recorded files. Point to video hosted by Videolinq or any 3rd party streaming service provider. This article explains how to create a player.

Adding an image on the player can tell viewers when the live stream will begin, or provide additional information before they click to preview a recorded file. Be creative and create your own image/text information. To display an image when the player loads on a page do the following:

Step 1:

Create a JPEG image matching the largest player resolution. For example, if you plan to stream a 1080p live stream or file, set the image to 1920x1080 pixels. Upload the image to a public web server or to unrestricted storage place like Dropbox. Copy the path to the image and test it that it is visible online and does not require permission to see it.

Step 2:

Login to the Videolinq media dashboard and click on the player icon on the left navigation bar. Create a new player or use an existing player. Click and expand the Player Controls tab.

Step 3:

Paste the link to the image created in Step 1.

Step 4:

Click on the green icon Save & Generate Player Code to save settings.

When the player loads the poster image will display and viewers will need to start the stream to see video. Important: "Autostart video" in the Player Controls tab must be unchecked for the player to load and display the poster image.
